Dorothy Van Bergen, 91, died peacefully Saturday, March 26, 2016 with her family in Corvallis, OR. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to many.She was born October 10, 1924 in St. Bonifacius, MN. She moved to Southern California at age 23. She married Ralph Van Bergen, deceased in 2006, on June 25, 1947. They resided in Downey for over 63 years.She was a devout member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and active in the Ladies’ Guild. In addition to being a full time homemaker she volunteered for the Ladies of Charity making sandwiches for the homeless. She loved to garden, was an enthusiastic Dodger fan, a skilled team bowler and avid reader. She leaves her 5 children, Mary Lou June, son-in-law Steven June, John Van Bergen, daughter-in-law Linda, Rosemary Pickard, son-in-law Larry Pickard, Ralph Van Bergen,Jr., daughter-in-law Patricia, Joan O’Connell, son-in-law Kevin O’Connell, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many neices and nephews in Minnesota. A memorial Mass and service will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Downey on Friday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m.
