Donors provide more than 100 teddy bears to child hospital patients

DOWNEY — The Southeast Bruins partnered with Downey’s Girl Scouts Troop #01173 and delivered over 100 teddy bears to children fighting cancer at Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center on Dec. 20.

Due to the compromised immune systems of the child patients, the group of Girl Scouts and Southeast Bruins Board were greeted by Kaiser staff, who collected the stuffed animals to then hand deliver to the child-patients.

The Girl Scouts collected the teddy bears on Dec. 4 at Allie and Co.’s new location on Firestone Boulevard in Downtown Downey. The “Kids Helping Kids” event allowed the Girl Scouts an opportunity to provide comfort to their peers while learning about the effects of cancer.

This is the second year that the Downey Girl Scouts Troop #01173 partners with the Southeast Bruins.
