Curves collecting food for needy families

DOWNEY -- During the month of March, Curves of North Downey is collecting food to donate to local food banks.Over the past five years, nearly 50 million pounds of food has been distributed to local communities through the national Curves Food Drive. Curves of North Downey is also waiving its normal service fee for any new member who brings in a bag of non-perishable groceries and joins between March 9-28. "The Curves Food Drive is always exciting," said Meena Katakia, owner of the Downey club, located at 9206 Lakewood Blvd. "We have a chance to help so many people at a time when the food banks are lowest. Especially during these uncertain times, this food is needed more than ever." For more information on the food drive, call (562) 862-2220. ********** Published: March 20, 2009 - Volume 7 - Issue 48
