Crime Report, Oct. 1-3

Thursday, Oct. 1: 
At 6:30 a.m., Downey Police Officers responded to 9036 Firestone regarding a burglary. An employee of Café-n-Stuff had arrived at the location and discovered that sometime during the night a burglar had smashed the front glass door of the business and made entry. The only loss at the time appeared to be the cash register. Investigators are working the case.

Saturday, Oct. 3:
At 1:00 a.m., Downey Police Officers responded to Kaiser Hospital regarding a robbery. Officers arrived and contacted a 48-year Bellflower resident who had been riding his bicycle in the area of Paramount and Florence when his path was blocked by two men walking on the sidewalk. The two suspects stopped the victim and demanded the man’s bike and punched him. During the incident, a vehicle stopped to see what was going on which scared off the suspects before they could obtain any loss. The victim then took himself to the hospital to seek treatment of minor injuries he received from the incident. Detectives are investigating.

At 1:00 p.m., Downey Police Officers responded to 7121 Firestone, Home Depot regarding a robbery. Upon their arrival, officers detained and later arrested a 23-year-old man for robbery, after he had entered the store, taken merchandise, and then exited the store failing to pay for it. When the suspect
was contacted by store security, the suspect fought with them but was ultimately subdued. He was booked for robbery and transported to the Los Angeles County Jail.

At 10:30 p.m., Downey Police Officers responded to 7356 Stewart & Gray, The Glen bar, regarding a subject brandishing a weapon. Upon the officers’ arrival, they detained and later arrested a 30-year-old man from the city of Glendale who had brandished a knife at the victim during an argument outside the bar. The suspect was booked for brandishing the knife.

At 11:35 p.m., Downey Police Officers responded to the area of Birchdale and Everest regarding a possible attempted carjacking. Upon their arrival, officers contacted a 23-year old Downey resident who had been driving in the area when an unknown man attempted to steal her car. As the suspect was demanding that she relinquish her car, the victim was able to fend off the attacker and drive away. Detectives are investigating the incident.
