Crime Report for week of Feb. 6

This week's Crime Report, provided by the Downey Police Department. SATURDAY, JAN. 31

At 12:30 a.m., a Patrol Officer was on routine patrol in the area of Downey Avenue and Firestone Blvd and observed a male subject dancing in the middle of the street. When the officer exited his vehicle to contact the subject, the subject ran towards the front of Joseph’s Bar & Grill (11032 Downey Ave) attempting to flee. The subject was not allowed into the establishment and the officer was able to detain and ultimately arrest the subject for public intoxication.

At 11:00 a.m., Downey Police dispatch received an automated license plate read (LPR) notification on a vehicle wanted in connection with an armed assault and broadcast the information to officers. An Officer located the vehicle near Paramount Blvd and 3rd St and conducted a felony traffic stop. The named suspect was taken into custody without incident and the vehicle was impounded per the request of the handling agency.

SUNDAY, FEB. 1

At 2:45 a.m., a Downey Police Officer was in the area of Firestone Blvd. and Brookshire Avenue attempting to arrest a subject for drunk in public following the arrest of another suspect for vandalism. The initial suspect vandalized a city trash can by breaking the bolts holding it to the sidewalk and throwing the trash can into the street. While taking the second suspect into custody, additional suspects attempted to use force to stop the detention. Additional officers responded and ultimately arrested three suspects for Attempted Lynching. The initiating Officer and two suspects received minor injuries as a result of the altercation. The suspects were treated at a local medical facility.

At approximately 1:55 p.m., Downey Police Officers responded to the JC Penney store regarding a theft investigation. When they arrived, officers spoke with the Loss Prevention Officers who reported there was a male in the store who had taken items without paying for them. When the Loss Prevention staff attempted to contact him he ran away and a female suspect attempted to block the Loss Prevention staff from stopping him. When they finally caught up to the suspect, he turned around and pulled a knife from his right front pants pocket. He told the security officers he would use the knife if they attempted to detain him. Both suspects ran away and were located a short time later by Downey Police Officers. The female suspect was positively identified and arrested, and the male suspect ran away from the officers. The male suspect was identified and Detectives are investigating.

At 10:50 p.m., Downey Police Officers responded to 7737 Firestone Blvd regarding a subject climbing on a ladder onto the roof of the building. When Officers arrived, they observed the suspect on the roof. The suspect attempted to slide down a drainage pipe to flee from officers however fell and injured his ankle. Officers detained the suspect and found him in possession of copper wire and miscellaneous tools. The suspect also had copper from inside the building in his vehicle. The suspect was arrested and transported by Downey Fire Department to a local area hospital for treatment. Detectives are conducting follow up investigation.
