Crime Report: 9/1/2021

On Aug. 23 at 12:05 am, officers responded to a domestic disturbance on the 8300 block of Vista Del Rosa. The adult suspect choked and attempted to gouge the eye of his mother during an argument. The suspect was located and arrested without incident.


Also at 12:05 am, officers were dispatched to a robbery in progress at 7371 Florence Ave (7-Eleven). The armed adult male suspect entered the store and held the clerk at gunpoint. The suspect demanded the cash from the register and the clerk complied. The suspect fled on foot with approximately $200 in U.S. currency. Officers checked the area and were unable to locate the suspect. The suspect was linked to additional armed robberies in cities throughout Los Angeles County. With information provided from the Downey Police Department detectives, the suspect was identified and has since been arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. 


On Aug. 23 at 5:20 pm, officers responded to a robbery in progress at the Mobil Gas station, 9002 Imperial Hwy. The adult male suspect threatened the clerk with a black firearm and took approximately $300 of U.S. currency before fleeing the scene. The suspect was not located and detectives are handling the investigation.


On Aug. 24 at 4 pm, officers responded to 12020 Lakewood Blvd. in regards to an attempted robbery. The female suspect approached the victim as she entered her vehicle. Without provocation, the suspect struck the victim in the face and attempted to take her property. The victim ran and the suspect fled back to an awaiting vehicle. The investigation revealed the incident was recorded and the video was shared on social media. The investigation was forwarded to the detective bureau. 


On Aug. 27 at 8 pm, officers responded to the area of Paramount Blvd. and Alameda St. in regards to a suspect brandishing a handgun. The adult victim stated an adult male in an older model truck pointed a black handgun at him. The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of responding officers. 


On Aug. 27 at 9 pm, the Downey Police Department conducted a DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint to promote public safety and with the intention of deterring drivers from driving impaired. During the operation, 401 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 1 driver was arrested for DUI. Funding for the operation was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.


On Aug. 28 at 5 am, officers responded to the 13000 block of Woodruff Ave, in regards to a stabbing. The victim, an adult male, was walking while pushing his 1-year-old baby in a stroller. The victim saw the adult male suspect and turned around to avoid contact with the suspect. The suspect approached the victim from behind and tried to engage the victim in a conversation. Unprovoked, the suspect stabbed the victim in the back with a knife and fled the scene.  Officers located the suspect matching the description and detained him. The suspect was in possession of a knife at the time of detention. The suspect was positively identified as the suspect and arrested. The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for a non-life threatening injury.
