Crime Report: 8/3/21

  • On July 19 at 5:45 am, officers responded to the 9000 block of Margaret St. in regards to an assault. The victim, an adult male, stated he was leaving a friend’s home when he was confronted by a male walking by. The adult male suspect accused the victim of disrespecting him and told the victim he was going to kill him. The suspect then chased the victim with an object in his hand, which the victim believed was a knife. The victim was able to flag down officers. The suspect was located and a box cutter type knife was located on his person. The suspect was arrested.

  • On July 19 at 4:15 pm, officers were called to the 13600 block of Bixler Ave. in regards to a victim who was assaulted with a metal pipe. The adult male victim said he was assaulted by 3-4 males, and struck with a metal pipe during the assault. The detective bureau responded to the scene.

  • On July 20 at 7:25 am, officers responded to the area of Manzanar Ave. and Telegraph Rd. in regard to a possible vehicle bomb. A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy located a reported stolen vehicle parked and unoccupied in the area.  The deputy looked inside the van and noticed wires running to underneath the front dashboard and he could hear random electronic tones. Local residents were evacuated and the LASD Bomb Squad responded to assist Downey Police personnel. The vehicle was inspected and deemed safe.

  • On July 23 at 1 am, officers were dispatched to 7-11 (11853 Downey Ave.) to an armed robbery in progress. The suspects entered the store and pointed a firearm at the clerk and patrons. One suspect removed currency from the register, while the second suspect stole a cell phone from a customer and removed a necklace from another patron.  The suspects fled the scene prior to officers arriving. Forensics was called in to process the scene and detectives are actively investigating the crime.
