Crime Report: 7/6/21

  • On June 15 at 7 am, officers responded to the 12300 block of Chavers Ave. in regards to a suspect brandishing a firearm. The adult male victim stated he observed an adult male suspect in the process of removing the catalytic converter from the neighbor's vehicle. The suspect noticed the victim, produced a handgun, and threatened the victim. The suspect fled the location and the victim was unharmed.

  • On June 19 at 11 pm, an adult male victim was selling a mini-motorcycle via the OfferUp application. The victim agreed to meet the adult male suspect at Golden Park (8840 Golden Ave) to complete the purchase. During the transaction, two additional suspects arrived and began striking the victim with a wrench. The victim let go of the motorcycle and the suspects left with the motorcycle. Detectives are currently handling the investigation.

  • On June 21 at 3 am, officers responded to Norwalk Community Hospital to investigate an aggravated assault. An adult male victim stated he was sitting on the bus bench at Bellflower Blvd. and Imperial Hwy. when he was struck on the head with a metal pipe. The victim said the assault was unprovoked and he was struck from behind. The victim sustained moderate injuries and could not provide further information regarding the suspect.    

  • On June 23 the department received a tip regarding a large quantity of dangerous and illegal fireworks at a residence on the 10200 block of Lesterford Ave. Detectives began an investigation, which led to a search warrant for the property being executed. The residents were not home at the time of the warrant service and detectives confiscated 375 pounds of illegal fireworks. 

  • On June 24 at 3:15 pm, officers responded to the 13200 block of Woodruff Ave, in regards to an armed robbery. As officers were investigating the robbery, an additional call was received stating the same suspect committed an armed kidnapping of an additional adult victim near the location. Both adult victims were not harmed. During the investigation, the suspect was located in the area and seen running into a residence on the 12600 block of Glenshire Ave. Patrol officers and detectives converged on the residence which led to the suspect surrendering peacefully. The rifle used during the crimes was recovered and the adult male suspect was arrested.    

  • On June 25 at 8 pm, the Downey Police Department conducted a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint to promote public safety and with the intention of deterring drivers from driving impaired. During the operation, 2,124 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 6 drivers were arrested for DUI. Funding for the operation was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
