Crime Report: 12/2/2020

Nov. 24:

At approximately 7:45 am, officers responded to the 8300 block of Firestone Blvd. regarding an armed robbery. Officers contacted the adult female victim who had been standing in the area when she was approached by a male that stated he had a gun. The suspect demanded the victim's property. The victim gave the suspect her property and the suspect ran to a waiting vehicle with a second suspect driving. The vehicle fled the area.

A short time later, a second robbery occurred on Lakewood Blvd. where another female was confronted by a suspect armed with a handgun. The suspect demanded her property and fled to a tan colored sedan. The vehicle was last seen northbound on Lakewood Blvd. with a driver and gunman. The description matched that of the first robbery. 

Officers and detectives in the area located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Two male adults were detained without incident. Both the driver and passenger were identified and the loss was recovered. 

Nov. 27:

 At approximately 1:15 pm, officers responded to the 13500 block of Lakewood Blvd. regarding an attempted bank robbery. An adult male suspect entered the bank, demanded a million dollars with a demand note. The teller did not give the suspect any money. The suspect then fled the bank on foot.

Approximately 45 minutes later, the suspect returned to the bank with a second demand note. Detectives detained the suspect inside the bank without incident. The suspect was arrested and charged with attempted robbery.

Nov. 29: 

At approximately 7:25 pm, officers located an occupied stolen vehicle in the area of Lakewood Blvd. and Donovan St.  Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and the vehicle yielded. The driver, an adult male, was arrested for auto theft.

Nov. 29: 

Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred at about 8 pm in the 9200 block of Ceclia St. The adult female victim was parked when she heard two gunshot rounds strike her vehicle. She then heard additional rounds fired further east of her. She believed the suspect was in a passing vehicle when they fired the shots, but did not see the suspect or vehicle. The victim was not struck or injured in the incident. Detectives responded to the scene and located one spent bullet. No casings were located.

Detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred at about 11:20 pm in the 11600 block of Lakewood Blvd. Officers were dispatched to the area of Lakewood Blvd. and Cleta St. regarding an injured female asking for help. Officers arrived and found the female unresponsive to the front of the location. The Downey Fire Department attempted life saving measures, however, they were unable to revive the female and she was pronounced deceased.  It appears the victim sustained a head wound. The Detective Bureau and forensics responded for the investigation.
