Court reporting classes now at night

NORWALK - Cerritos College will offer night classes for beginning court reporting and captioning students beginning in the fall semester.Classes are open to anyone interested in a career in court reporting or captioning. "Evening on-site classes are generally not available at any public schools," said Vykki Morgan, co-chair of the Cerritos College Court Reporting and Captioning Careers program. "This is a great opportunity for students who would like to jump into court reporting training but haven't been able to attend classes during the day." The court reporting department offers two $500 scholarships, funded by a Congressionally-directed grant for Realtime Captioning from the U.S. Department of Education, for students interested in becoming realtime captioners. To qualify, students must be enrolled in the beginning court reporting classes for the fall semester, which begins Aug. 20. An orientation for prospective students will be held May 12 at 2 p.m. on campus. For more information, contact Vykki Morgan at vmorgan@cerritos.edu or (562) 860-2451, ext. 2791.
