Cornelia students graduate with high honors

DOWNEY — A pair of Downey residents graduated with high honors from Cornelia Connelly School last month.

Mariah Lopez was senior class president and graduated Summa Cum Laude; a member of the National Honor Society, she was awarded the Departmental Achievement Certificate for English from Connelly.

Lopez was named a Scholar from the National Hispanic Recognition Program; was awarded the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence; was awarded the Catholic Relief Services Global Advocate Aard; and was awarded the Burgeoning Young Journalist Award.

She earned a full-ride scholarship to Fordham University, where she will attend school in the fall.

Catherine Hoyos graduated Cum Laude. A member of the National Honor Society, she was awarded Connelly’s distinguished Head of School Award, the Presidential Award for Educational Achievement, the Sr. Raymunde McKay Scholarship and Director’s Scholarship from Azusa Pacific University.

She was also awarded the Dean’s Academic Scholarship from Biola University, the Teacher Preparation Honors Program Scholarship to Hope International University, the LMU Grant from Loyola Marymount University, and the John Greenleaf Whittier Scholarship from Whittier College, where she will attend.
