DOWNEY — The Downey City Council has scheduled a special meeting for 3 pm Thursday where the only topic of discussion is the employment future of city manager Gilbert Livas.

The agenda includes two items for consideration: an evaluation of Livas' performance and "discipline/dismissal/separation/release."

The Downey Patriot reported Monday that, according to sources, a City Council majority of Sean Ashton, Mario Trujillo and Catherine Alvarez wants to replace Livas with a new city manager.

It's not clear why council members are unhappy with Livas, who has served as Downey's city manager since 2011.

Council members did not respond to messages seeking comment.
