DOWNEY – CalMet Services will begin picking up Christmas trees Saturday, and collection will continue until Jan. 16. Trees should be left curbside with all tree stands and decorations removed. Trees over 4 ft. tall should be cut in half.

Do not place trees in bags; flocked trees are OK.

Commercial accounts such as businesses and apartments should call CalMet at (562) 259-1239 ext. 7 to arrange free pick-up . Trees should be set out at the curb, not by trash bins.

Christmas trees can also be dropped off at the city’s public works yard, located behind Independence Park.

All trees will be taken to the Puente Hills Landfill, where they are composted or ground up and used as landfill covers.
