Charles “Charlie” Joseph King

December 25, 1935 - August 1, 2021

Charles “Charlie” Joseph King passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at the age of 85. Charlie was born on December 25, 1935 in Evergreen, Alabama to Richard and Julia King and was the youngest of 6 children. After working as a radioman on a US Naval Destroyer for three years, then earning his Accounting degree, Charlie worked as an accountant and CPA for Foster, Muller & Co. in South Gate, CA. Charlie became a partner and the firm moved to Downey, CA, and grew to be Muller, King, Mathys, Acker, and Lopez.

During his career, he was generous with his time, serving with many organizations. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Downey, Kiwanis Club, a member of the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees, and City of Hope. He and his wife, Gloria, chaired the Kiwanis Breakfast with Santa program for more than 10 years. Charlie was active in his practice for more than 50 years, retiring at the age of 75 when he moved to Medford, OR.

In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed playing golf, spending many hours on the green at Candlewood Country Club in Whittier, CA and then Centennial Golf Club in Medford. He was devoted to getting his daily exercise whether at the gym, on the treadmill, or throwing some punches at the punching bag. He was a very strong man with a gentle and kind demeanor. He enjoyed watching football, and was a true Alabama fan to the core. He could always be found watching televised games, and when the score was too close for comfort he would pace the floor . . .Roll Tide!

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Gloria King; son Charles Christopher King and his wife Lisa King; grandchildren Timothy and Breanna King; stepchildren Jeff Coffman (Stacey) Brent Coffman, Mitchell Coffman, Renee McMillan and their families. He will be greatly missed by all those that had the pleasure of knowing him.
