Carrie Uva launches bid for City Council

DOWNEY – Attorney and real estate broker Carrie Uva announced a campaign for City Council this week.

Uva is seeking to replace Councilman Fernando Vasquez, who will be termed out of office this November.

Uva is a lifetime Downey resident. She attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help School and St. Joseph’s High School before earning a bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University and a juris doctor degree from Western State University School of Law.

“I am very proud to be a lifetime Downey resident,” said Uva. “Downey has always been a great place to live, raise a family and work. If elected, I will be dedicated to the needs of the community, allow citizens to have a voice, bring people together and, most importantly, serve District 4 with the utmost honesty, integrity, and pride.”

As an attorney, Uva specializes in estate planning, wills, and trusts. She has also been a realtor with 24 Hour Real Estate since 1991 and earned her brokers license in 2008. She is past president of the Downey Association of Realtors and was awarded “Realtor of the Year” in 2014.

“Downey has been very good to me, allowing me the opportunity to do the two things I love most: practicing law as well as selling homes for the past 25 years,” Uva said. “Our citizens take pride in their homes and neighborhoods and we are so fortunate to have terrific schools, our own police and fire departments, and city officials that want what is best for the residents of Downey and really care about the city.”

Uva is president of the Pastoral Council at St. Peter’s Italian Church in Los Angeles and belongs to Downey Los Amigos Kiwanis. She is also the block captain of her neighborhood watch group.

She is also an appointed member of Downey's Public Works Committee.
