Bulldog beauty contest in Long Beach
LONG BEACH - The eighth annual Bulldog Beauty Contest will be the featured event at the Haute Dog Pageants taking place Feb. 11 at Marine Stadium in Long Beach.Other events include a pit bull pageant, ugly dog contest, senior dog contest and "National Mutt Show." There will also be pageants for French bulldogs, pugs and chihuahuas, and contests for cute dogs, small dogs, large dogs and all-encompassing Best in Show. Dogs will parade down a grassy runway that includes a 100-ft. red carpet, with a panel of real-life beauty queen judges. Judging for each contest will be based on charm, first impression, face, figure and personality. Costumes and talent are optional. Last year, more than 250 bulldogs participated. Contestants ranging in age from four months to 17 years are expected to participate, with some traveling from as far away as Oklahoma and Montana. The event, produced by Justin Rudd, is free to attend. Seating along the runway is $5 per chair. The event also includes a pet vendor fair and adoption booths. Marine Stadium is at 5225 E.
