Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the Downey City Council will meet this Wednesday, a break from its usual second and fourth Tuesday schedule.

Councilman Sean Ashton’s proposal to prohibit no-fault evictions will get most of the attention, but the council has a separate decision to make: mayor for 2020.

Mayor Pro Tem Blanca Pacheco is in line for the position, and if she gets the vote Wednesday as expected, she will become the first Latina mayor in Downey history.

And if Councilwoman Claudia Frometa is elected mayor pro tem, it will be the first all-female mayor and mayor pro tem combination in Downey history.
