DOWNEY - The Warren High School boys' cross country team recently competed at the Oregon Pre-National cross country competition.There were 89 schools represented at this event, with 10 of theses schools being ranked from California. The Bears finished in fourth place and left with a feeling that they very well may win this competition next year. As of the Oct. 8 C.I.F. Division I cross country rankings, Warren has climbed to 12th. Coach Miranda has five of his top seven runners returning next year. His top runner Jonathan Rodriguez is a sophomore, his number two runner is sophomore Benjamin Gonzalez, his number three runner is senior Fortino Santana, his number four runner is sophomore Andres Bernal, his fifth runner is senior Ramiro Santana, his sixth runner is junior Michael Hernandez and his seventh runner is also a junior in Brandon Iraheta. Warren cross country currently has 41 sophomores competing at various competitions. This represents a huge number of potential athletes ready to step up and compete. While many programs tend to rebuild every few years, Warren High School is in reload mode. Coach Miranda is excited to see how this cross country season unfolds. The Bears have already won the first San Gabriel Valley League cluster meet at Hollydale Park held on Sept. 20. The second cluster meet was held Wednesday at Cerritos Regional Park (results not available at press time) and the final cluster meet, which also serves as league finals, will be held at La Mirada Park on Oct. 30. The Bears are certainly expected to advance in C.I.F. competition.
