Bastards restaurant throwing party for Marines birthday

DOWNEY – Bastards restaurant in downtown Downey is hosting a celebration Tuesday to commemorate Veterans Day and the Marine Corps’ 240th birthday.

The event will feature a barbecue buffet, beer garden, live music, games, and a historical cake-cutting ceremony.

There will also be veteran information booths and a static military display.

The event is being produced by Save the Brave, a Downey-based non-profit organization that provides companionship and stress management tools for combat veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and other combat-related injuries.

Scheduled to perform are bands Blue Jewels (3-4 p.m.), New American (4-5 p.m.), Justin Lee Band (6-7 p.m. and 8-9 p.m.) and DJ Lando (9-10 p.m.).

All proceeds from the event will benefit Save the Brave.

The Marines Corps was created Nov. 10, 1775 by a resolution of Continental Congress at Tuns-Tavern, Philadelphia.

“In memory of them it is fitting that those that call themselves Marines should commemorate the birthday of our corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history,” Bastards said.
