DOWNEY – Assemblymember Cristina Garcia has announced the start of her third “There Ought to be a Law” contest for residents of the 58th Assembly District. 

Residents are encouraged to submit their ideas for a new state law. 

“Start brainstorming, or, if you already have an idea, you can submit your ideas and proposals for a new state law on my website,” Garcia said.

“Entries can touch on a wide range of issues that can be addressed by legislation and will improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods and throughout the state of California.

“The contest is open to residents of the 58th Assembly District and people of all ages are encouraged to enter.  I highly encourage all high school and college students to participate.”

The winner will have the opportunity to travel to Sacramento, testify before an Assembly Committee on the merits of the bill and have lunch with the Assemblymember. The deadline is Jan. 20, 2016.

The last two winners of Garcia’s “There Ought to be a Law” contest bill ideas are now effective law.
