Arlene Tyson

November 16, 1931 - January 17, 2017

Arlene Tyson was a Downey resident for 67 years. After a brief struggle with Alzheimer’s she passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side.

Arlene started work as a Candy Striper at the original Rio Hondo Hospital. She loved caring for people and after completing her education she became a nurse at that same hospital. Later she worked for the CareMore Medical Group. After retiring from nursing she became a successful Real Estate Agent in the La Habra Heights area.

Arlene was a people person! She made many wonderful friends over the years. She is survived by her two sons Mike and Jim, their wives Millie and Terri. She is also survived by a granddaughter Nikki, four great grandchildren and a younger sister Kathy who she helped raise. Arlene loved her family and her family loved her!

In later years Arlene kept busy oil painting, crocheting, gardening in her beautiful backyard and caring for Sammy and Toby her little senior dogs. She often donated money to the South East Animal Control over the years in the hopes of helping animals without a loving home. Both her dogs were rescue dogs.

The funeral service was a private family affair as she requested. In lieu of flowers if anyone would like to make a donation Arlene requested they be made to the South East Area Animal Control. Arlene was very concerned about Sammy and Toby and hoped they could go to a loving home for their last few years. If anyone could adopt one or both of her little dogs please contact her son Jim at (562) 923-3206.

Arlene’s family wishes to thank the CareMore Medical Group and Doctor Kahn for their excellent care over the years as well as the wonderful Gerinet Health hospice care in her last months.
