LAKEWOOD - Los Angeles County is hosting a seminar May 14 in Lakewood for local residents who think their taxes should be lowered due to a decline in their property's value.The 90-minute seminar is intended to help taxpayers better understand the assessment appeals process. It will cover taxpayers' appeal rights, when to file an application for reduction in assessment, how to prepare for a hearing, what qualifies as admissible evidence, what will happen at the hearing, and what to expect after the hearing. The Lakewood seminar will take place at 10 a.m. at the Angela Iacoboni Library. Other seminars are scheduled for March 14 in El Monte, April 10 in Van Nuys and June 12 in Lancaster.
