Man nearly severs leg lighting M80

A 50-year-old Downey man suffered extensive leg injuries after lighting an M80 inside a ceramic pot last night, fire officials said.
The explosion shattered the pot and its shrapnel nearly severed the man's leg. He was taken to a local hospital.
Police officials said they responded to several calls for service "but it was relatively calm."
