Elephant Bar closes Downey location
DOWNEY -- Elephant Bar, one of the original restaurants in the Downey Landing retail center, has officially closed its doors.
In 2014, the restaurant chain’s parent company, S.B. Restaurant Co., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed 16 stores. Now, more than two years later, Downey’s location has suffered the same fate.
Elephant Bar was one of the original restaurant locations offered when the Downey Landing opened in 2006.
According to Downey’s Director of Community Development Aldo Schindler, the Downey location was the chain’s strongest, and thus survived the longest.
Schindler also added that he and city staff are working with the property owner and broker to bring a high caliber restaurant to the location, however, there is no telling what restaurant that will be or when it will happen.
News of Elephant Bar's closure in Downey was first reported by the Facebook page Downey Loves Trader Joe's.
